Security Best Practices
Follow these guidelines to maximize your password security:
Create Strong, Unique Passwords
Use a Unique Password
- Never reuse passwords across different websites
- If one site is compromised, unique passwords protect your other accounts
Make it Memorable
- Use a passphrase: combine random words (e.g.,
Purple$Elephant#Dance7) - Create an acronym from a sentence (e.g., "I love teaching yoga at 6am!" →
ILty@6am!) - Avoid personal information (names, birthdays, addresses)
Avoid Common Passwords
- Don't use dictionary words alone
- Avoid sequential patterns (123456, qwerty, abc123)
- Don't use obvious substitutions (P@ssw0rd)
Use a Password Manager
Consider using a password manager to:
- Generate strong, random passwords
- Store passwords securely
- Auto-fill passwords on websites
- Sync across all your devices
Popular password managers:
- 1Password
- LastPass
- Bitwarden
- Dashlane
- Built-in browser password managers (Chrome, Safari, Firefox)
Changing Your Password
To update your password:
- Sign in to your account
- Go to Settings > Security
- Click Change Password
- Enter your current password
- Enter your new password (meeting all requirements)
- Confirm your new password
- Click Update Password
You'll receive a confirmation email when your password is changed.
When to Change Your Password
Change your password immediately if:
- You suspect your account has been compromised
- You used the same password on another site that was breached
- You shared your password with someone
- You logged in on a public or untrusted device
If you see any suspicious activity in your account, change your password immediately and contact support@studiobase.org.
Password Restrictions
For security reasons, StudioBase prevents:
- Reusing recent passwords: Can't reuse your last 3 passwords
- Common passwords: Passwords on known breach lists are rejected
- Personal information: Passwords containing your email or name are flagged as weak
Troubleshooting
"Password does not meet requirements" error
- Check that all 5 criteria are met (length, uppercase, lowercase, number, special character)
- Use the strength indicator to see which requirements are missing
- Try adding more character variety
"This password has been compromised" error
- This password appears in known data breaches and is unsafe
- Create a completely different password
- Never reuse passwords from other websites
"Password is too common" error
- Avoid dictionary words and common patterns
- Add numbers and special characters in unpredictable positions
- Use a longer, more unique password
Strength indicator shows "Weak" even when requirements are met
- The password meets minimum requirements but could be stronger
- Add more characters (aim for 12+)
- Increase character variety
- Avoid patterns and predictable sequences
